The
idea behind “sustainable” living is simple:
it is a commitment to a lifestyle that
respects our natural resources without sacrificing comfort,
beauty or practicality. Each day the earth is home to more
people; fortunately, each day also brings us more ideas for
preserving our earth.
Below are some of the features that
go into creating sustainable communities.
• Storm water management. We filter
our storm water runoff before it is discharged downstream
from the subdivision.
• Parks in excess of city requirements.
• Landscape Lots. Grassed areas buffer road noise while
creating walking areas that are aesthetically pleasing.
• Use of sustainable materials, for example stone instead
of brick.
• An emphasis on walkability to reduce vehicle emissions.
• Abundant green space and parks throughout the community.
• Use of green materials encouraged in building.
• Alternative uses for green space such as ball parks,
picnic areas, playscapes and swimming pools.
• Communities with amenities that allow for less driving,
including easy access to elementary school.
• Mixed-Use. The overall plan for the combination of
commercial and residential options, and homes that appeal
to all ages for a broader cultural appeal. |
